Instagram Introduces Pronoun Options to Add on Profiles

Posted: 12 May 2021 10:30 AM PDT

Instagram is now letting users to add up pronouns to their profile, that they can display publicly or to their followers only. In case the preferred pronoun is not already available, users can fill out a form to add it.

The newly added option is available in limited countries, including the US, for now, according to Instagram.

The feature of pronouns is something that few other platforms already have, such as OkCupid, Lyft, and Facebook. Facebook brought the feature to its platform in 2014 and while its pronoun options are limited to "he/him, she/her, and they/them," Instagram plans to offer more options.

A decline in apartment rates in the USA

Among the uncountable impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, some impacts are on the rental patterns as well. In the USA, several residents who lived in elite areas and in expensive rental homes, packed up their stuff and moved to smaller cities or areas with low rental properties. Furthermore, the increased remote working opportunities and work from home orders have made it easier for people to opt for homes in farther neighborhoods as well.

As the infographic shows, the largest decrease in the rental prices of apartments was seen in San Francisco that too, for a one-bedroom apartment. A 45 percent decrease in the rental prices of one-bedroom apartments in San Francisco indicates how people are escaping from places with exorbitant rents. As for a two-bedroom apartment, the rental fares went down by 24 percent over a year from March 2020 to March 2021.
Chesapeake in Virginia which is located at a very ideal place and close to naval installations saw the second-largest annual decrease in the rental fares i.e., 29.4 percent. Whereas, New York City saw a 27.3 percent decline followed by Colorado with a negative 24.6 percent and Los Angeles with a negative 16 percent.

Surprisingly, some US cities have recorded a spike in rental fares of apartments such as Kansas City where the price for one-bedroom apartment rent increased by 33.5 percent year-over-year. Gilbert in Arizona saw another massive spike with 26 percent whereas, Las Vegas with 25.3 percent also posted an increase in rental fares.

The switch is expected to become Nintendo's massive hit

If the gaming industry ever presented an award for boldness, none other could beat Nintendo. The Japanese company launched the motion-controlled Wii U intending to overtake the success achieved by its predecessor Wii. Unfortunately, the product failed miserably.

Instead of integrating a proven formula for its new console, the company used one of the outstanding features of Wii U i.e., a gamepad with a display and doubled down on it. Doing so resulted in a full-fledged hybrid console that is a mix of handheld and home console. Surprisingly, it has become a massive hit.
Nintendo Switch was released back in 2017 and by now, the company has sold nearly 85 million pieces which has successfully outdone the Wii. The Nintendo Switch is currently the most successful home console by Nintendo. As the infographic reveals, the sales of Nintendo Switch have surpassed those of Wii which saw a drastic decrease within three years after the launch.

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a major boost for the spike in sales of Nintendo Switch during the fiscal year 2020/21 because the company about 29 million units in this important year ended March 31st. For the upcoming fiscal years, Nintendo is expected to see slightly lesser sales however, the Switch sales would continue to beat those of Wii during that time.

Currently, Switch requires sales of 15 million more units in order to beat the Wii's overall lifetime sales as it has 101.6 million lifetime sales. According to the predictions, Switch will achieve that goal easily by Christmas 2021.
