I heard the tell-tale buzz beforehand but my swatting wasn't good enough. It turns out that when the female is buzzing it isn't just a warning to humans -- it's a signal that male skeeters pick up with their unusual ears to help them zoom in for a mating session. That finding, reported in a new study, could lead to a new way to curb the mosquito populations that do such an effective job spreading a number of viruses.
