Spanish Liga F champions Barcelona are facing an anxious wait over the availability of Asisat Oshoala as they prepare for the UEFA Women's Champions League final against Wolfsburg at the PSV Stadium in Eindhoven on Saturday, June 3.
Barcelona's head coach, Jonatan Giráldez, has included Oshoala, along with the Spanish-Nigerian prodigy Vicky Lopez, in the 27-player squad for the trip to the Netherlands. However, there are genuine worries about the Super Falcons striker's fitness as she struggles to recover from a thigh injury ahead of the highly anticipated showdown.
On the eve of the final, the 28-year-old underwent individual training while her teammates toiled on the pitch. Oshoala was substituted in Barcelona's final league game of the 2022-2023 season due to discomfort in her thigh, making way for Salma Paralluelo in the 21st minute.
In this season's Champions League campaign, Oshoala has featured in nine matches, finding the back of the net five times, including impressive brace performances against Benfica and Rosengård. Earlier, she was also considered doubtful for the semifinal clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but managed to make a late appearance from the bench for the final six minutes.
Barcelona has reached the Champions League finals four times in the last five years, with Oshoala being part of the squad that clinched the title in the 2020-2021 season.
