Say hello to Apple's new iPad lineup

The tech giant released updated gear on Tuesday

First up, the new-look iPad (from $449) comes with an all-metal enclosure, flat sides, and symmetrical bezels. And there are a bunch of new colors to choose from, too. Apple's ditched the Lightning connector for a USB-C port, bringing it in line with other iPads models, and also offers a new Magic Keyboard Folio for a whopping $249.

The refreshed iPad Pro continues to come in 11-inch and 12.9-inch flavors, though both have now been updated with Apple's powerful M2 chip. The new iPad Pro also offers improved Apple Pencil tricks where it can detect the pencil tip 12mm above the display, enabling greater precision when sketching. Pricing for the new iPad Pro starts at $799.

The tech giant also unveiled an updated Apple TV 4K model starting at $129, sporting an A15 Bionic chip, HDR10+ support, and an updated Siri Remote.

Netflix's decline is over

The streaming giant has stopped losing customers

After struggling through the first half of 2022, Netflix has stopped losing customers. According to its latest growth report, the service added 2.4 million new subscribers between July and September. The two previous quarters saw it lose 200,000 and 970,000 subscribers, respectively.

The streaming giant is also feeling positive about the outlook, too, believing it'll pick up around 4.5 million new subscribers before the end of the year.

How? Company execs think that prospective customers may be lured by the company's new (and cheaper) ad-supported tier, which launches on November 3 for $7 per month. Additional revenue could also come via a new effort to clamp down on password sharing.

Following the publication of the results on Tuesday, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings didn't hide his delight, saying: "Thank God we're done with shrinking quarters." Whether or not Netflix can maintain the upward trend remains to be seen.

This DeLorean-inspired flying car is the futuristic transport pod we deserve

The X2 recently took its first public test flight

A "flying car" recently took to the skies over the United Arab Emirates, with its Chinese maker, Xpeng, hoping to launch the two-seat X2 aircraft in international markets.

A video of the unmanned demonstration flight shows the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicle rising high into the air, its eight sets of propellers keeping it aloft for 90 seconds.

As noted by CNN, the aircraft, which has a top speed of 80 mph (130 kph), features the famous gull-wing door design of the DeLorean car made famous by the Back to the Future movies.

A growing number of companies are developing small, electric flying machines, with many believing the aircraft have the potential to revolutionize urban transportation while also reducing carbon emissions.

The Discmaster Textfiles

Late yesterday, internet historian and archivist Jason Scott announced the launch of Discmaster: a repository of over 91.7 million vintage computer files ripped from CD-ROMs and floppy disks. It's an awesome collection of old-school images, videos, audio files, and shareware from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s — all made searchable and easy to explore. Just be warned: In addition to plenty of game files, screensavers, and other nostalgic early-computer-era nonsense, there's also a lot of porn. Happy exploring!
