The Vicarage Road landlords are struggling for survival in the English Premier League and will need all the aid they can get to escape relegation.

Maduka Okoye, the Super Eagles goalkeeper, has expressed his concern about Watford's relegation difficulties in the English Premier League.

When Okoye signed a five-and-a-half-year agreement with Watford for an estimated €7 million in November, he became the most expensive Nigerian goalkeeper signing in history.

His Watford contract began on January 1st, but the Hornets enabled him to finish the season with Sparta Rotterdam..

Watford and Sparta Rotterdam have had a difficult season in their respective leagues, with both teams potentially facing relegation.

The Golden Boys have had three managers take charge of the team this season, yet the Hornets are still in the bottom half of the table. 

Sparta are also not better off, with Henk Fraser's side in 17th place on the 18-team table, four points from safety.

If Watford is relegated, Nigeria's number one goalkeeper may be forced to play in the Championship next season.

Okoye admits to being concerned about his parent club's problems, despite the fact that there is little he can do from the Netherlands to influence their fortunes.

However, the 22-year-old has promised to go to any length to prevent Sparta from being relegated from the Eredivisie.

"It is concerning for me that Watford is also facing relegation, but I can only help Sparta now," Okoye told Rijnmond.

"I will do everything I can to keep Sparta in the Eredivisie. I can't help Watford now."

The 22-year-old goalkeeper has appeared in 19 league games for the Dutch club, shipping in 29 goals while preserving three clean sheets. Okoye has also received three yellow cards.
