Today, a Hennepin County judge overseeing the case ruled that the trial, originally scheduled for August, should be delayed to give time for the three officers to be tried on separate and more serious federal charges. Judge Peter Cahill also said the defendants — Thomas Lane, Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng — deserve space from publicity. Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis officer who kneeled on Floyd's neck, was convicted of murder and manslaughter last month. He'll be sentenced June 25. Hospitalizations are also steadily declining from a mid-April peak. Vaccinations remain much lower than they had been, but seem to be plateauing at around 37,000 total doses per day. Around 61 percent of those 16 and older have had at least one dose. Subscribe to our Minnesota Today podcast to get the up-to-date Minnesota news twice daily. — Kirsti Marohn | MPR News |
