Fellow Conservative,
I've been reflecting this week on the importance of having tight-knit allies who keep you on the right track. But making the right enemies can be a good sign too. As the late Justice Antonin Scalia said, "A man who has made no enemies is probably not a very good man."
It's true that Heritage has several in each camp of support and opposition. For example, allies like Sean Hannity are giving great shout-outs to Heritage for immigration fact-checks like the one I shared with you last week.
On the other hand, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib amusingly blamed Heritage for being funded by billionaire dark money. Even though she literally acknowledged in the same breath that Heritage represents a broad base of more than 500,000 Americans from around the nation.
Obviously, Heritage is glad to collaborate with people of all stripes toward the right goals. Staff with our Feulner Institute regularly go to non-traditional audiences to make friends out of former foes. But sometimes we must boldly contrast our True North principles with the dangerous alternatives. There's a proper place for compromise and a proper place for unwavering resolve.
Who do you think that Heritage needs as allies as we promote conservative principles? Who should we seek out opportunities to partner with? And who should we not align ourselves with?
Thanks for your help, and I wish you and your loved ones a Happy Passover and Blessed Easter weekend.
Best,
Andrew
