In an exhilarating match on Friday night, Taiwo Awoniyi showcased his scoring prowess once again, contributing to Nottingham Forest's 2-1 victory over Sheffield United.

This remarkable feat, as reported by OPTA, propels Awoniyi to the position of the Nigerian player with the longest-scoring streak in the Premier League. The 26-year-old has found the back of the net in six consecutive games, joining the ranks of African football giants Mohammed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor with a streak that only they have surpassed.

Awoniyi's remarkable journey commenced on May 8 against Southampton, and since then, he has consistently found the target against top-tier opponents such as Chelsea, Arsenal, and Crystal Palace. The start of the new season has been equally promising for the Nigerian International, netting twice in just as many matches.

Impressively, Awoniyi has also matched the long-standing record set by Stan Collymore, a 26-year-old record that sees him scoring in six consecutive Premier League games for Nottingham Forest. His most recent goal, a header executed in the third minute, was the result of a precise cross by Serge Aurier.

The pendulum of the match swung both ways, with Gustavo Hamer leveling the score for Sheffield United in the 48th minute, only for Chris Wood to clinch victory for Nottingham Forest in the 89th minute.

With 2 goals in just 2 Premier League games this season, Taiwo Awoniyi has made a strong statement as a key player under Steve Cooper's leadership. While Awoniyi dazzled on the field, his compatriots Ola Aina and Emmanuel Dennis were notably absent from the matchday squad.

The next challenge on Nottingham Forest's horizon is a formidable encounter with Manchester United at Old Trafford, scheduled for August 26. Awoniyi's remarkable journey and historic achievement continue to captivate football enthusiasts worldwide.
