| Judge Ralph Steinberg served nearly half his life in that role, and it's one he took seriously while having a little fun. The retired Hillsborough County circuit judge was known to be a good listener who often had a joke or magic trick for the right moment. He died at 92 on Aug. 2. Here are some obituaries from the past week found in the obits section of the Times and from local funeral homes: Lawrence Borawski, 71, of Tampa "managed to get backstage at Woodstock and found himself driving many artists to/from the stage and their hotels. He shared a bottle of champagne with Joe Cocker and strawberries and cream with Grace Slick. He was also able to watch the final performance, Jimi Hendrix's infamous Star Spangled Banner from closer than the front row." Billy Christmas, 76, of Tampa "was a football coach for the Tampa Eagles little league football team, as well as the Youth Football Conference." Elvira Garcia, 88, of Tampa was a teacher for nearly 50 years. "Some of you can read this sentence because of 'Miss Garcia' and her work to launch kindergarten in Hillsborough County's schools in the 1970s." |
