The NFC East has not seen a repeat winner since the Philadelphia Eagles won four straight in the span of 2001-2004. Since then the division has seen a new winner every season. While history may not be on the Eagles' side, they are still far and away the most talented team in the division, and the clear favorite to win the NFC East once again.
Recently Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Demarcus Lawrence has come out and said there is no big gap between the Eagles and Cowboys. Lawrence's comments sparked up a conversation about how the Cowboys could dethrone the Eagles this year in the NFC East. The Cowboys certainly did improve their roster with the additions of Brandin Cooks and Stephon Gilmore, but the Eagles still are better than the Cowboys at almost every position, especially quarterback.
The battle between the Boys and the Birds is always prime time television and the two teams look to be the front runners to claim the NFC East crown this season.
You can make several different arguments for why the Eagles are better than the Cowboys but just look at the most important position. The Eagles have Jalen Hurts, who took the team to the Super Bowl in his second full-time season as the starter. The Cowboys have Dak Prescott who is 2-4 in his playoff career.
The Cowboys have a history of choking in the playoffs and in big games, while Hurts has the Eagles trending in the right direction still so early in his career.
When it comes to division titles and regular season football, Prescott and the Cowboys have seen their fair share of success, but haven't seen that success translate to anything in the playoffs.
The battle for the NFC East this season is going to be nothing short of a dogfight. The Eagles and Cowboys are two of the top teams in the NFL, while the Giants are quietly continuing to improve under Brian Daboll.
If you're a betting person, would you want to put your money on a team with a history of choking or a team that just went to the Super Bowl to win the NFC East? The Eagles and Cowboys may be close on paper, but the Eagles have proven they are not just a top team in the NFC, but they are one of the best teams in the league.
