Plus: Restaurant closures (and an opening) around Tampa Bay

CLIFFORD | Times] | | Where to eat near Clearwater's new Coachman Park | | Something big is happening in downtown Clearwater. If you live nearby, you know what I'm talking about. If you don't get over there very often, well, there's now a good excuse: Imagine Clearwater, an $84 million remake of Coachman Park that officially opened this week. The project brings with it a gorgeous waterfront park and lots of amenities, including a new music venue called the Sound, a playground and a splash pad. My colleague Sharon Kennedy Wynne detailed all of that (and much more) here. The city is hoping the development will bring more foot traffic to the notoriously sleepy downtown area, and it certainly might. But the first thing we thought of when we considered visiting the new area: Where can we eat nearby? So my colleague Maggie Duffy compiled this list of places to eat pretty much within walking distance of (or a quick boat ride away from) the new Coachman Park. I plan on hopping on that Clearwater Ferry and dining at one of the beachside spots as soon as possible. | | | | | | | RESTAURANT RADAR | | | [Courtesy of Devon Kreps] | | 7venth Sun Brewery is closing in Tampa | | 7venth Sun Brewery announced it is closing its Seminole Heights location later this week. The beers will still be in distribution and the Dunedin location will remain open. Read more here. This St. Pete spot is closing, too: Downtown St. Petersburg restaurant Zoie’s has closed. Read more here. Fatburger comes to Tampa area: Fatburger, a Los Angeles-based chain, opened a new location in the Tampa area on June 22. The spot at 9950 Upper Alafia Court in Riverview is now open and slinging burgers, fries, shakes and more. | | | | | | | WHAT I'M EATING RIGHT NOW | | | Pizza night at Atria Cafe | | One of my favorite places to get bread in the Tampa Bay area is south of the Skyway Bridge, in the Lakewood Ranch area of Manatee County. About 30 minutes south of downtown St. Petersburg, a stop at Atria Cafe is so worth it if you're in the area. Mainly a coffee shop by day, the spot sells sourdough bread loaves baked daily, an assortment of pastries and breakfast and lunch fare. But their pizza has become a new contender for my favorite menu item. | | | Offered from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, their pizzas are 100% natural sourdough, fermented for at least 24 hours. And you can tell. The lightly charred crust is deeply flavorful, with a slight sourdough taste and a perfectly chewy texture. I love their pepperoni pie, a classic item done superbly here. | | | One of my go-to pizza companions is salad, and this Caesar option at Atria really hits it out of the park. A stalk of romaine lettuce topped with blistered tomatoes, shaved Parmesan and cured egg yolk, it's tied together with a homemade Caesar-ish dressing that's heavy on the umami flavors. My husband and I split one pizza and one salad, and it was plenty for one meal. 4120 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Lakewood Ranch. atria.cafe. | | Also: If you find yourself down in the Manatee/Sarasota area, check out this roundup I wrote of where to eat and drink and explore in downtown Sarasota.
