I gazed out the kitchen window, and held a cup of morning coffee and blew steam from the brim. Tears welled in my eyes, threatening to spill over into my heartache. The early summer morning pushed the branches on the maple trees, to sway with the humid breeze, which dried the dew on the tips of the grass. But I didn't see what I needed to. I wanted us to rest on the porch swing and sip from a sweet glass of uneven expectations. I swore Hannah's mom explained she had returned to Alabama. But the mountain reception interrupted mispronounced words. Hannah returned from the mall before bed last night. I'll never be happier for what I have over what I missed.
