Will TikTok Be Banned?

Or will digital privacy laws be the fix? ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

I use the TikTok app, well, just about every day for a lot of different reasons. Instead of watching silly videos or dance routines, I use TikTok for more practical reasons. I use it to find new recipes to try, workout routine ideas, book recommendations, or even ideas for articles I write for CNET (like this story on fridge organization or this deep dive into the practice of mindful eating).

That said, I really like the app for many reasons, but even I -- a Gen Zer -- can admit that there are some dicey privacy issues. In light of these concerns over data collection, some
American lawmakers are pushing for a complete ban of the app in the US, stating it’s a national security threat. If banned, 150 million users would lose access.

Rather than a complete ban, some argue that federal legislation should be passed to secure digital privacy and social media user data. Either way, we’re on the brink of a big culture shift. To stay informed on
this TikTok story, and other big CNET news and reviews, keep reading below.
