It's happening. It's finally happening.

Hey folks,

It's happening. You guys, it's FINALLY happening. It's going to be WARM this weekend!

Our weather friends over at Updraft say the warmest air mass we've seen since November is headed for Minnesota.

Say goodbye to the cold temperatures — Friday begins the warming trend with highs near 50 in southern Minnesota. Next week brings highs in the 60s and 70s.

But earlier this week, my iPhone said it would be in the 80s?

Well, your iPhone was wrong. Meteorologist Sven Sundgaard has the details on why you should be mindful of where you get your Minnesota weather outlook and why nothing beats your local meteorologist's forecast.

As always, I love to hearing about the unique events you are looking forward to here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes (or even just the simple ways you are enjoying the warmer weather). Send me an email about an upcoming weekend event or festival that matters to you and your community, and it might get featured in The 'sotan.

But before that happens, check out these great photos from MPR News freelance photographer Derek Montgomery — he captured photos of massive waves hitting the icy shores of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota earlier this week. And he even spotted some surfers!
In Minnesota, maple syrup producers go with climate fluctuations flow

A changing climate and severe weather can delay the start of the maple syrup season. How long depends where you are. Even in the same part of the state, producers' seasons might be different — especially in southern Minnesota.

From the shortening tapping season to decreased sap production and quality, some producers said spring conditions and warmer winter temperatures bring changes every year. But, syrup producers are also having to adapt to the changing climate using new technology and planting heartier maple trees.

When their theater closed, these comedians found an audience in each other

The pandemic forced the Brave New Workshop Comedy Theater to temporarily close its doors. But performing online opened the door for new approaches to comedy — and new places to find validation.
