The Washington Monthly welcomes entries for this year’s Kukula Award for Excellence in Nonfiction Book Reviewing. This national journalism prize honors the memory of Kukula Kapoor Glastris, the magazine’s longtime and beloved books editor. It celebrates the kind of serious, public affairs-focused book reviews that Kukula devoted herself to commissioning and editing—and the talented individuals who practice this undervalued craft.

This spring, we’ll honor ten finalists and their publications for exceptional book reviewing and, from that distinguished group, we’ll select two top prize winners. Our judges give priority to reviews of biographies and works about politics, public affairs, and history—themes about which Kukula was most passionate.

Are you a book reviewer or reader who appreciates great reviews? Please help us spread the word or apply yourself for a chance to win a $1,000 prize and the admiration of your book-loving friends! The submission deadline is March 15, 2023.  Find eligibility details and our easy entry form here.
