Happy last day of January,

Is it too early to say we're getting closer to spring? I mean, we're now two-thirds of the way through this meteorological winter in Minnesota, and there's little chance for significant snow this week. Walz signs bill guaranteeing abortion access in Minnesota
Today's big and expected news: 
Effective immediately, Gov. Tim Walz has signed the PRO Act into law, guaranteeing the right to abortion in Minnesota despite any future laws challenging it. It also includes access to birth control, sterilization and family planning support.

Former Minnesota Sen. Dave Durenberger dies at 88
David Durenberger, who rose from central Minnesota to the United States Senate, died today. the Republican served 16 years in the Senate, earning a reputation as an expert on health care, environmental policy and other national issues. "It is a huge loss."

🏙 Report: Minnesota's greenhouse gas emissions dropped, but work still needed
Minnesota's overall emissions dropped 23 percent from 2005 to 2020. Why? Businesses and local governments took action to reduce climate pollution. Also: the pandemic.

A historic first, Minnesota legislators began reviewing a bill today to protect access to health care for trans youth: "... A bill that will help us live."

🚗 Driver charged in Bloomington hit-and-run crash that killed teen, injured sister
A 17-year-old boy died and his sister, 14, was hospitalized after being struck by a car while crossing a Bloomington street Friday evening. An Oakdale woman, 27, faces criminal vehicular homicide and hit-and-run charges after allegedly striking them both.
