The MoJo Daily newsletter, Monday through Friday.

It has truly been a banner day for right-wing lunacy over here at Mother Jones dot com. As my colleague Arianna Coghill wrote, Rep. Madison Cawthorn made his grand exit from Congress today by giving a speech in which he condemned the "nanny state" and claimed, "It used to be a rite of passage in this country for young men to be punched in the face when they did something stupid." I wrote about how Kanye West went full Nazi, prompting the House Judiciary GOP to finally remove an October tweet that read, "Kanye. Elon. Trump." And, hey, remember the trucker protests? Staff reporter Stephanie Mencimer published an investigation into the PAC that raised nearly $2 million off those pacts and, despite being a political action committee, failed to ever support or oppose a single political candidate. Then there's Herschel Walker, the Republican Georgia Senate candidate who falsely claims to have worked in law enforcement; doesn't believe in racism; and says OJ Simpson should mentor kids. Mother Jones reporter Abby Vesoulis obtained a video of Walker in 2014 saying, "I was going to law school. I was accepted to law school." There's just one problem with that: He didn't complete his undergraduate degree, which is a prerequisite for being admitted to and enrolling in a nationally accredited law school. Abby gets into all of the nuances of eligibility for law school, with the conclusion that Walker's statement was highly unlikely. Go figure. —Abigail Weinberg |
