DEMOCRATS NOW HAVE ACCESS TO 6 YEARS OF DONALD TRUMP'S TAX RETURNS The Treasury Department complied with a request to turn over former President Donald Trump's tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee after a three-year legal battle. Trump was the first major party presidential nominee since Richard Nixon to not publicly disclose their tax returns while running for the office or while in office. [HuffPost]

HAKEEM JEFFRIES ELECTED TO LEAD HOUSE DEMS' NEXT GENERATION Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday got elected House Democratic leader by unanimous vote as long-serving Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her team step aside next year. Jeffries will become the first Black American to head a major political party in Congress. The internal Democratic caucus votes of Jeffries and the other top leaders came without challengers. [AP]

HOUSE VOTES TO IMPOSE UNION CONTRACT WITH PAID SICK LEAVE TO AVOID RAIL STRIKE The Democratic-controlled House voted to impose new union contracts on the nation's rail workers to avoid a nationwide strike that could hurt the economy and worsen inflation. Lawmakers also approved a resolution granting seven days of paid sick leave per year but that seems unlikely to make it through the Senate. As GOP senators resist support for the measure, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said it's "hard" to understand how Republicans can say there are a working-class party if they don't support paid sick leave. [HuffPost]

WALMART SHOOTING SURVIVOR FILES $50 MILLION SUIT, SAYS RETAILER WAS WARNED ABOUT GUNMAN A Walmart worker who survived last week's mass shooting at a Virginia store is suing the retail giant for $50 million, saying that she and others had complained about her former co-worker's behavior prior to him carrying out the attack and that the store's management failed to keep its employees safe.
