Young pastor with deep roots in Black church 'keeps it very real'
It's a Sunday morning at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church in Minneapolis. Pastor Elijah McDavid is preaching to the congregation. The rows are nearly full with several dozen churchgoers.

Above the pulpit hangs three portraits of a Black Jesus and banners with each letter of the word — Rhythm — hang across the ceiling. They represent the traditions of its primarily African American congregation.

At 30, McDavid may be young for a senior pastor, but he has deep roots in the Black church. Originally from Arlington, Virginia his grandfather was a pastor and civil rights leader in South Carolina for over 50 years — who battled segregation and helped integrate schools. McDavid grew up hearing how his grandfather helped transform his community and it continues to inspire him to this day.

What else we're watching:
Soccer fans of the north, World Cup watching in Duluth draws cheers. "The days of the USA, not being a soccer nation, I think are kind of over really. In four years time, we've got the World Cup here again. So I think it's just gonna grow and grow." AP: US advances in World Cup with 1-0 win over Iran.

Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes convicted of seditious conspiracy in Jan. 6 trial. Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the far-right Oath Keepers, has been found guilty of seditious conspiracy and other offenses in connection with the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

U.S. bat species devastated by fungus now listed as endangered. The Biden administration declared the northern long-eared bat endangered on Tuesday in a last-ditch effort to save a species driven to the brink of extinction by white-nose syndrome, a fungal disease.

Bomb-sniffing dogs are in short supply across the U.S. The pandemic led to global supply snarls — including a shortage of dogs that detect explosives. One big reason is that the U.S. gets the vast majority of its dogs from other countries.
