Fall color finder map update

It is starting to feel like fall and in Minnesota we are chilling nicely. Between your plans to attend fall festivals, church rummage sales and Oktoberfests, make sure to check out the leaves. While many are at their peak, some are even passing it.

The latest Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fall color finder map shows most of Minnesota at 50 to 75 percent of peak color as of Thursday. Get more weather news on Updraft.

Future of Mississippi River dams in Twin Cities up for discussion again
There are now three inactive lock and dam structures along that part of the Mississippi, and the Corps is turning its attention to the Lower St. Anthony and Ford dams — trying to determine what, if anything, to do with them. Open house events to gather feedback will start next week.

An internationally-renowned city planner who led the revitalization of St. Paul's Lowertown neighborhood has died. Weiming Lu was 92 years old. He worked around the world, but drew particular attention for reenvisioning historic buildings in Minnesota's capital city. 
Biden pardons thousands for 'simple possession' of marijuana
President Joe Biden is pardoning thousands of Americans convicted of "simple possession" of marijuana, as his administration takes a dramatic step toward decriminalizing the drug and addressing charging practices that disproportionately impact people of color. 
 
Overcoming barriers to improving the mental health of Minnesota farmers
Recent data from the Centers for Disease Control shows, in 2021, nearly 60 percent of Minnesota's gun suicides happened in greater Minnesota. And to help — just last week the state department of health lead a training on mental health for faith leaders. But what more is needed? And what do political candidates and policy makers need to know about people's lives in rural Minnesota? 
Refugee arrivals to Minnesota could quadruple this year
Some are criticizing the Biden administration for refusing to raise the cap on how many refugees the country accepts, and for admitting far fewer than that cap allows. The United States can resettle 125,000 people this fiscal year, which began on Saturday. Last year, it used less than a fifth of its slots.
