| By now, you've likely seen Mahsa Amini's name and heard about her death in custody, allegedly after being beaten by Iran's so-called "morality" police. She was arrested for not properly covering her hair with a hijab. Her death has sparked widespread and largely peaceful protests all across Iran. The bravery of protesters in recent days reveals the extent of outrage over abusive compulsory veiling laws, unlawful killings, and widespread repression. The government has responded with extreme violence and has attempted to hide their abuses with an Internet blackout. Amnesty has reviewed photos and videos showing people with horrifying wounds on their heads, chests, and stomachs. Protesters were deliberately shot at close range. We've collected evidence of the unlawful use of birdshot and other metal pellets, teargas, water cannons, and beatings with batons. Hundreds of people have been severely injured. Protesters in Iran are out in the streets, crying out for justice, and we must mobilize the full force of our movement in support of them. Will you rush an emergency donation to help expose human rights violations? Without global action, there will be further bloodshed. As always, thank you, |
