ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NEW YORK SUN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 29, 2022

The New York Sun Brings Back the 'Penny Daily'
The Sun invented the 'Penny Press.' Now it's bringing it back.

The famed New York Sun newspaper is offering subscriptions for just a penny a day.

It's a throwback to the Sun's founding, in 1833, as the first "penny daily," making journalism accessible to all Americans.

In doing so, the Sun established its role as a newspaper that places the public interest first, and, as its iconic masthead declares, "shines for all."

"At the time of the Sun's founding, newspapers were out of reach for most Americans," said the Sun's Publisher Dovid Efune. "With today's trust crisis, a similar gulf has opened between the press and the public we serve. The Sun has long upheld the finest traditions in American journalism and is uniquely positioned to help restore public confidence in the press."

"Affordability is key to accessibility," Mr. Efune added, "especially with inflation at historic heights. We wanted the cost of joining the Sun to be economical for every American."

"The Sun long prided itself on being the best priced among its competitors," said the Sun's current editor, Seth Lipsky. "It long battled to maintain the price of one penny, which signaled its ambition to 'shine for all.'"

We invite you to join the movement to restore Amercian journalism and subscribe to The New York Sun today!

###
Credited as "one of the most influential of American newspapers," the Sun was founded in September 1833 by Benjamin Day.

A pioneering newspaper, the Sun has made many contributions to modern journalism, including news syndication, human interest stories, personal ads, crime reporting, fashion coverage and front page headlines. Its report comprises straightforward, unblinkered news dispatches and an editorial page that puts a premium on principles over politics and people over party.

For nearly two centuries it has stood for safeguarding liberty and defending the national welfare. It seeks to speak out the sentiment of the people in a voice that is true to its motto, "It Shines for All."
