I probably get buzzed approximately 12 to 20 times a day during the work week — a paltry number compared to the average U.S. smartphone user's 322 per week — but it's the weekend buzz that seems to affect me a lot less than those highly anticipated mid-week buzz sessions I've come to expect.

An international team of space researchers recently came together to test what might happen if Earth were threatened by a large asteroid strike. Results from the planetary defense exercise, which happened last year, have just recently been published and show the steps that would need to be taken if a planet-killing asteroid was headed for us.
To simulate the threat, the participants considered asteroid Apophis. This real 1,100-foot-long asteroid will come close to Earth in 2029 and 2068, but won't actually strike the planet. But for the sake of the exercise, the participants worked out what could have happened if it had threatened Earth on its most recent close approach between December 2020 and March 2021 ... |

The EU is reportedly planning to vote in favor of a landmark regulation that will mandate the adoption of USB-C for smartphones and tablets, forcing Apple to drop the Lightning port on iPhones.
According to a Reuters report, EU lawmakers and delegates are set to meet at an event on June 7. During that meeting, the proposal for universally adopting the USB-C port will be agreed upon as the unified standard for all phones and tablets sold in the region.
"The trilogue next Tuesday will be the second and likely the final one between EU countries and EU lawmakers on the topic," says the report, hinting that the remarkable manifesto will finally get the approval and get enacted as law ... |
