The Super Eagles will now face São Tomé and Príncipe after the two archipelagos won their appeal against Mauritius today.
The CAF Appeals Committee ruled in favour of São Tomé and Principé weeks after Mauritius reported them of fielding an ineligible player and this latest decision nullifies earlier verdict passed by its Disciplinary Committee on 8 May 2022.
Mauritius claimed that striker Luis Leal, 34, was not eligible to play against them because his PCR test dated more than 72 hours before the match while according to the protocol, the tests must date from 48 hours.
Luis Leal scored the only goal in the first leg of their play-off with that result now reinstated to nullify the initial decision made by CAF's disciplinary committee to award a 3-0 win to Mauritius.
This decision means that Sao Tomé will be joining Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau in Group A of the qualifiers with the top 2 team in the group qualifying for the 2023 AFCON in Cote D'Ivoire.
The Super Eagles will travel to São Tomé and Principe just four days after playing Sierra Leone in the first game of the qualifiers at the National Stadium, Abuja on the 9th of June.
Peseiro's Eagles are currently in the United States ahead of their friendly clash against Ecuador tomorrow.
