Dancing in the street

The 'sotan newsletter
June 2, 2022

It'll be a cool and windy weekend with a chance for a few showers — but we should be storm free! Have your windbreaker at the ready because there are plenty of outdoors events and entertainment to experience in Minnesota this weekend.

Open Streets Minneapolis
Each month Minneapolis is shutting down different streets to traffic and opening them up for community festivals with local food, entertainment and products to enjoy. This Sunday Lyndale Ave. S will be hosting the party.

St. Anthony Park Arts Festival
This Saturday, head to St. Paul for this celebration of art and community. There will be music, activities for the whole family and of course lots and lots of artists booths to check out. Find a map and more information on their website.

Art Hounds: Bakken Trio performs with crowd-sourced puppet story
Carolyn Kleinberger's large portraits allow the viewer to get "Up Close from a Distance" at Hopkins Center for the Arts. The Bakken Trio closes its season with Pavel Haas' "From the Monkey Mountains" — featuring a puppet performance from Z Puppets Rosenschnoz. Duluth abstract painter David Austin paints live on Instagram on Saturdays.

Train Days at Union Depot
Choo choo! All weekend Union Depot in St. Paul is hosting this celebration of trains and transportation. They'll be giving equipment tours, hosting an activity area and contests, as well as a vendor marketplace.

Author Marie Myung-Ok Lee on her new novel 'The Evening Hero'
Minnesota-born Marie Myung-Ok Lee mines her own history for a wry new novel about a northern Minnesota doctor who learns his hospital is being closed by the corporation that bought it. That decision upends a previously quiet and controlled life. On Big Books and Bold Ideas , host Kerri Miller talks with Lee about her new novel, "The Evening Hero."

Crown our Prince: Downtown Minneapolis Prince Mural Block Party
Everyone is invited to the heart of downtown Minneapolis to honor Prince's legacy with a block party. There will also be an official unveiling his larger-than-life mural. The party starts at 7 p.m. tonight (Thursday) — hopefully you opened this newsletter in time!

Homemade summer treats
Want dessert? The Splendid Table has several recipes for summer-themed treats to share at the next block party. Such as: Homemade ice cream sandwiches, strawberry pretzel pie, strawberry ricotta cakes, dounut ice cream and berry striped pops.
