BIDEN: 'WE CAN'T FAIL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AGAIN' President Joe Biden gave his second evening address of his presidency, exhorting Congress to pass gun control legislation after a wave of mass shootings stretching from Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Buffalo, New York. The president called on lawmakers to pass a suite of measures, including universal background check legislation, a ban on assault weapons, a national "red flag" law and an increase on the age requirement to buy a gun. [HuffPost] MINUTES AFTER PRESIDENT'S SPEECH: ANOTHER SHOOTING The president finished his speech at 7:48 p.m., closing with pleas asking lawmakers "how much more carnage are we willing to accept." Three minutes later, 911 calls started coming in in Ames, Iowa, about another shooting. Authorities said three people were killed in a parking lot outside a church, including one person believed to be the shooter. [HuffPost] FIRST COVID-19 SHOTS FOR KIDS UNDER 5 COMING SOON The Biden administration said children under 5 may be able to get their first COVID-19 vaccination doses as soon as June 21 if federal regulators authorize shots for the age group, as expected. Shipments to doctors' offices and pediatric care facilities would begin soon after FDA authorization, with the first shots possible the following week. [AP] HOUSE COMMITTEE LOOKING AT KUSHNER'S SHADY SAUDI TIES The House Oversight Committee asked Jared Kushner, former President Donald Trump's son-in-law, for information about a $2 billion investment the Saudi government made in Kushner's brand-new investment firm just six months after he left the White House. "The Committee is concerned by your decision to solicit billions of dollars from the Saudi government immediately following your significant involvement in shaping U.S.-Saudi relations," a letter sent to Kushner reads. HuffPost's Alanna Vagianos breaks down the lasting impacts of a nation gripped by the media circus surrounding celebrity lawsuits. "The way people are discussing this trial will, without a doubt, trickle down to victims across the country," she writes. [HuffPost] COMEDIAN STUNNED BY MAN IN CONFEDERATE FLAG SHIRT Comedian Jason Selvig, part of the comedy duo the Good Liars, tried to play one of his usual pranks on conservatives during the NRA's convention last weekend in Houston. A meadow of sea grass stretching more than 110 miles long was actually a single plant that had spent the past 4,500 years cloning itself to carpet an area three times larger than Manhattan. [HuffPost] ME TOO FOUNDER REACTS TO DEPP-HEARD VERDICT Activist Tarana Burke said the Me Too movement is still strong after Johnny Depp was awarded more than $10 million in damages in his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. Critics have pointed to the case as evidence that the support network for sexual assault survivors had weakened, but Burke said it was merely further evidence "the same legal system that y'all have been relying on for justice and accountably" is still around.
