Texas Republicans call for more guns.

SCHOOL HORROR: AT LEAST 19 STUDENTS, 2 TEACHERS KILLED IN SHOOTING AT TEXAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL At least 19 children and two teachers were killed by a gunman who opened fire at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The shooter, an 18-year-old male, was killed by responding officers. Several students and a two fourth-grade teachers were among the first victims to be identified. A Washington Post profile of the shooter portrays him as angry and bullied, and says he used guns he bought days after his 18th birthday this month. [HuffPost] BIDEN ON TEXAS SCHOOL SHOOTING: 'WHY ARE WE WILLING TO LIVE WITH THIS CARNAGE?' President Joe Biden said he is "sick and tired" of lawmakers' inaction on gun control after the mass shooting in Texas. "Why are we willing to live with this carnage?" Biden asked. Former President Barack Obama argued that "our country is paralyzed — not by fear, but by a gun lobby and a political party that have shown no willingness to act in any way that might prevent these tragedies." [HuffPost] SEN. CHRIS MURPHY PLEADS WITH GOP TO COMPROMISE ON GUN CONTROL AFTER TEXAS SHOOTING Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), a vocal gun control advocate, pleaded with Republicans to accept gun legislation. "Why are you here, if not to solve a problem as existential as this?" Meanwhile, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called talk of gun reform an effort to "restrict the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens." Cruz, along with other Texas Republicans beholden to the gun lobby, called for more armed law enforcement in schools. Cruz, Gov. Greg Abbott and former President Donald Trump are scheduled to speak at an NRA conference Friday. Those senators are now taking a much different approach to absentee ballots when it comes to Pennsylvania's still-undecided GOP Senate primary between Mehmet Oz and David McCormick. [HuffPost] THE SUPREME COURT JUST MADE IT MORE LIKELY INNOCENT PEOPLE WILL BE EXECUTED The Supreme Court ruled that two people who were sentenced to death were not entitled to present new evidence in federal court showing that they had ineffective lawyers at trial. The decision increases the likelihood that people who are innocent or otherwise undeserving of their sentences will remain incarcerated, or even face execution. [HuffPost] 'SICK S**T' TEXAS GOV.
