SpaceX successfully launched the COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation 2 satellite for the Italian Space Agency on Monday, January 31.
SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral in Florida at 6:11 p.m. ET, blasting into the night sky as it carried the Italian Earth-observation satellite to a sun-synchronous orbit.
As usual, the private space company livestreamed the launch on YouTube, capturing the early stages of the mission using a variety of cameras.
Particularly cool was the footage of the stage separation two-and-a-half minutes after launch. While SpaceX usually livestreams this part via a camera attached to the Falcon 9's upper stage, this time it captured the separation using a powerful ground camera ... |

A laptop with zero ports and wireless charging? It seems that this may soon become a reality with the Craob X.
Photos and some basic specifications emerged, painting an image of a razor-thin, ultra-light laptop that seemingly packs a lot of punch within its very small frame. But will the lack of ports be a perk or a flaw?
Concept photos, first posted on Craob's website and then shared by MyLaptopGuide, reveal what might become one of the thinnest, if not the thinnest, notebooks out there. Although there are plenty of ultra-thin laptops on the market, the Craob X brings an unprecedented design choice in its lack of ports. It's not just the lack of USB or Thunderbolt ports, there is no charging port either. That doesn't mean that the laptop doesn't support these technologies, though — it comes with a wireless charger that offers access to these ports ... |

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced its intended $3.6 billion acquisition of Destiny developer Bungie on January 31. Less than two weeks after Microsoft's bombshell announcement of its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard, Sony responded by showing that it's willing to compete when it comes to spending lots of money to acquire popular developers. On top of that, Sony seemingly plans to keep Bungie a multiplatform studio.
While Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan told GamesIndustry.biz that "these conversations have been a number of months in gestation, and certainly predate the activity that we have seen this year," it still demonstrates a significant change in Sony's gaming mentality in light of Microsoft's acquisitions of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard.
For years, Sony focused on maintaining a refined and exclusive ecosystem of games and studios, but Microsoft's flurry of acquisitions over the past couple of years pushed Sony out of that comfort zone. After several smaller purchases, Sony has finally indicated that it's ready and willing to play on Microsoft's level and will do whatever it takes to stay on top in the gaming industry ... |
