ABSOLUTELY ADORE

The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez

This book was so so beautiful with its lyrical writing, focus on different types of loves and relationships and a sad, tragic but fitting end to everything. The Vanished Birds is a sci-fi book that spans over a 100 years but focuses on some small details which make the book incredibly personal and sweet and allows you get to know the characters very well. It allows you to feel for the characters and love them and get attached to them. All the characters were so real and felt tangible and like you knew them and I'm just in wonder about how the author managed to make me feel this way.

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

I ended up reading the first three books in this series very quickly one after the other as they were highly recommended to me by my friend who even gifted me book 1 on my birthday (thank you so much <3). I am so glad to tell you all that I was not at all disappointed and can now agree that Brandon Sanderson is truly a fantastic writer. He had me addicted and hanging off of each word desperate to know the secrets and what happens and how everything would unravel. I just couldn't stop reading until I had finished off all three books and I am glad I found another book that made me feel this way. I can't really explain how much I love this book but I have tried in my review so go check it out here.

Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner

This book was absolutely beautiful and devastating and it's hard to explain how much it affected me. It was heart wrenching to read Michelle's experience of losing her mother and see her struggle with it. The story is a little inconsistent following Michelle's thoughts and feelings and having access to this vulnerability just struck me so hard, especially due to some personal things which made this book even more impactful for me.

THOROUGHLY ENJOYED

Crier's War by Nina Varela

I loved rereading this series and going back to meet Crier and Ayla, my lovely pining and angsty sapphics and remember why I loved this series so much. After the rollercoaster of all the other books it was nice to have something familiar I already knew to comfort me and this series was definitely perfect for that! Nina Varela has written a fabulous book which engulfs you and makes you feel and question things and fall in love and if you haven't read this book but like fantasy with a tinge of science fiction, a sort of forbidden romance between a made (robot) and human girl with mysteries to be unravelled, this is the book for you!

Electric Idol by Katee Robert

This was fun and fast and I absolutely loved the dynamic between Eros and Psyche. Aphrodite asks Eros to kill Psyche but instead, he decides to protect her by marrying her and I love this trope so so much. Marriage of convenience, forced proximity and I was sent to kill you but instead we fell in love make for an amazing book overall. I just thought it was a bit insta love from Eros's perspective for me which I don't personally enjoy but it also makes sense as we get to know him better through the book so I can't really complain! I'd liked to have seen the world and politics more though and I am desperately hoping to get more of that in the sequel!

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan

This was a fantastic book which had me hooked very soon and I enjoyed every second of the book. I am so so excited to read the sequel too because oh my god that ending -- I need a minute or two or ten. Not only was the writing beautiful, but the world building and character development was also fantastic and I was immersed completely in the book.

PRETTY GOOD

The Silence of Bones by June Hur

This was a good and interesting historical mystery which definitely intrigues me but it felt like it dragged on a little too long from around the 50%-70% mark which made me lose a little interest. I really loved the intrigue and confusion though and maybe if things would've progressed just a bit faster, I would've loved it. I also how this book had no romance since it seems to be fitted into every book nowadays and can get a little tiring when it is really not needed. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit!

Desperate Measures by Katee Robert

To be honest I don't have much to say about this book. It was nice enough? I didn't love it or the characters or the romance but it was still a good book anyway?

I guess what I can finally say about is that it wasn't very memorable but it was enjoyable at the time I was reading it.

Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales

This was a cute, short and fun read I quite enjoyed and flew through in no time at all! I loved the new friendships Ollie forms in the town he moves to and how they're actually nuanced and different and all of the girls don't read like one same character. However, I didn't really love Ollie and Will for quite a few reasons - my opinion on them definitely changed towards the end with all the character development and if there was more, I'd perhaps grow to love them but I also liked seeing them being messy teenagers and also growing from it! Overall, it was a nice weekend read if you're looking for something short and adorable!

People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry

I have both good and bad things to say about this book and that's exactly what makes it fall into a 'pretty good' category. I feel like people could really love it but it just did not work for me. What I liked was the romance overall, the pacing of the book, the banter and friendship between the MC and love interest. However, this was quite well countered by my dislike of how the author told us about their past and the vacations they took together in a way it was hard to keep track and all the miscommunication, or rather, lack of communication between the characters. I also feel like there was a lot of privilege to be checked here and mental health discussions to be properly had which were just touched on and if they had been, it would've made then book a thousand times better!

DESPISE THE TIME I SPENT ON IT

All Your Twisted Secrets by Diana Urban

This book started off well with a time bond mystery and possible murder and unknown person managing everything and would'e been great off the author maybe focused on the present? The past flashbacks weren't that interesting to me and all the characters seemed to be the same and to be horrible and not really 'grey' and the ending was just... something. yeah, this book was not it for me.

Once Upon A Broken Heart by Stephanie Garber

OH I have so so many complaints about this book and it'll take quite some time to talk about all of them. I didn't really like the pacing which made the plot slo and boring, the main character was annoying and frustrating and the ending was not good and felt kind of weird to me. I do mention them a little more in detail in my short review which you can go check out if you're interested because I really don't want to spend more time thinking about this book.

WHAT I WATCHED

I actually didn't watch anything much since I spent a lot of time reading and listening to audiobooks. I did however rewatch parts of my favourite shows with my mom. We rewatched about 3 seasons of Schitts Creek, the first season of the Good Place and a little bit of Haikyuu and I loved the relaxation and comfort these shows provided me with! I also ended up rewatching season 1 of Emily in Paris with my mom since she hadn't watched it and well, we really couldn't find anything else to watch.

WHAT I DID IN JANUARY

January was a whirlwind for me with my family getting Covid right at the beginning of the month. I, thankfully, did not get it but I was still stuck at home and quarantined in my mom's room. Mom and I ended up watching a lot of shows and playing a lot of board games and it was nice and fun. After that, I still had another week before college restarted when I read quite a lot and very fast with being addicted the the Mistborn series and wanting more answers. I also got to go see my maternal grandparents for a weekend which is one of my favourite things to do and we had so much fun playing Poker and other card games together.

I loved how much time I could spend with my family before I got busy with college once again and didn't really have the time to go visit him. I am also glad I ended up reading so much since now I have a lot of college readings and trying to keep up with reading books as much as I want is never possible unfortunately.
