One year after the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, Americans are deeply pessimistic about the future of democracy, according to a new NPR/Ipsos poll.

Despite major improvements since a violent mob ransacked the Capitol, the Capitol Police still faces troubling security issues, including inadequate staffing, low morale and distrust between rank-and-file and top leaders.
