With less than two days left in 2021, we find ourselves at the end of another unprecedented year. One that brought us the Capitol insurrection. New variants. The chaotic withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan. And wildfires, snowstorms, hurricanes, and tornadoes at a rate and ferocity we’ve never seen.
But, for all that remained unpredictable this year, one constant was us being there for you, to cover these events at every turn. Another was the support from people like you that made it all possible.
Here are just some of the bright spots from the year that were fueled by that generosity: - Welcoming KPCC’s A Martinez to host Morning Edition and Up First.
- Celebrating our first Pulitzer Prize win for No Compromise, our podcast about gun rights activists. Created in partnership with KCUR and WABE.
- Premiering Where We Come From, a series that tells the stories of immigrant communities of color in their voices.
- Watching Virginia native Neffy win this year’s Tiny Desk Contest and follow it up with an intimate performance back at the real Tiny Desk.
- Rolling out our daily Book of the Day podcast.
- Launching two new Invisibilia seasons with new hosts Yowei Shaw and Kia Miakka Natisse. And finding out their episode, “A Friendly Ghost Story,” made Apple’s Top Podcast Episodes of the Year list.
- Learning Rough Translation’s “Home/Front” series was named one of The New York Times’ 10 Best Podcasts of 2021.
And, of course, celebrating our 50th anniversary with you, with retrospective stories and events all year long.
