Union Berlin manager Fischer Urs has revealed that he his pleased with Taiwo Awoniyi's performance this season.

Awoniyi was a 65 minute substitute in Union Berlin's home defeat by 2-5 to the Bundesliga Champions, Bayern Munich on Saturday. Handing them their first home defeat in 29 games.

Speaking after the match, Fischer Urs said; "Awoniyi is always working hard to improve on his skills, and also find ways to score more goals during the week."

The former Liverpool striker has netted 10 times in all competitions this season for the Berlin side. With seven in the Bundesliga, one in the German cup and two in the Uefa Europa Conference League. He is one of the leading goal scorers in Europe's top five league, behind Robert Lewandowski, Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Karim Benzema.

"I think strikers are important because they have to score goals. A lot of things are coming together at the moment for the club and that feels good." Fischer said.

The manager who have guided 'The Iron Ones' to four wins, four draws and two defeats in ten Bundesliga games this season, believes Awoniyi is happy and admits it's normal for bigger clubs to come knocking at the door of Union Berlin in request of the 24-year-old striker.

"Awoniyi is feeling well here in Union Berlin, he's happy and he's putting in the work."

"It's normal in football that when you begin to make a name for yourself, bigger teams will come knocking at the door."

"I am very happy for the players when they can get to the next level, but it also doesn't help me as a coach when good players leaves but that's sadly football."

Union Berlin will be host Feyenoord in a reverse fixture of their Uefa Europa Conference League game on Thursday. The first leg ended 3-1 in Netherlands, with Awoniyi scoring the only goal for the visitors.
