Phillies 2022 Offseason Needs

After a disappointing season from the Phillies how can the offseason be a turnaround for them? The Phillies this season has had a struggling bullpen that has been off and on a rotation that was lackluster and an offence that often struggled to get going. How can this offseason be a big one for the Phillies?

First there is many issues to address but the first is a big one, The bullpen. The bullpen has been a struggle and it seems like forever it's been struggling. A team bullpen ERA of 4.68 and a MLB leading 32 blown saves have been Costly and cant happen to a team that wants to compete in the Postseason. Signing a reliver or two is a Must need. Some players I think the Phillies should look at is Craig Kimbrel, he has kind of struggled to start with the White Sox's but has been dominant this season. If he does not sign with the team this offseason, then it will be a good idea to sign him a veteran arm will be needed. Trevor Rosenthal could be a nice pickup not as a closer but as a setup man to the closer or someone who we just need to pitch.

Keeping Hector Neris could be a good idea if he stops blowing saves. If he can be used for another role instead of the closer, it would be a good idea to keep him and at least until next years trade deadline and see how he plays. Lastly, I think Sir Anthony Dominguez could be a huge part of our bullpen if he stays healthy, he hasn't pitched since 2019 but could be a great option if he gets healthy.

For the offence its big that Alec Bohm finds himself this offseason and becomes the player all Phillies fans are waiting to see. He hit well in the beginning of last season but struggled as the season crept on. Didi Needs to go so far, he is hitting a career low .212 and continues to struggle at the plate and field and with injuries. I think the Phillies should look into picking up either Carlos Correa, Cory Seager, or Trevor Story. Either one of these would be huge for the Phillies Lineup and help them for the playoff push and cement a good infield around Alec Bohm, Jean Segura and Rhys Hoskins.

Rhys Hoskins has been big this season as we saw when at the end of the season when he went down with that injury. He was a massive part of the offence and was part of the productivity that supported Harper and the crew. Lastly, I think a backup catcher is needed, Andrew Knapp needs to go. A backup to JT would be nice to give him some rest or when Rhys needs a off day. Someone who can support on offence and just play good defense at the catcher position would be nice.

The Phillies need some offseason work this season to become contenders in a division that is competitive. They need someone to help guys like Harper and JT and the Bullpen has been a wreck. A good bullpen closer and setup guy is needed for the Phillies to become real contenders and to become that playoff team all Phillies fans have been waiting for. Players like Alec Bohm and Hector Neris need to find themselves this offseason and need to get to become the players we want and know they can be.
