| Twitter is Testing New Features to Enhance Transparency of Privacy Settings Posted: 08 Jul 2021 02:42 PM PDT
Twitter is providing its users with a better understanding of privacy settings and options, with a bunch of new features that it is currently testing. The social media company is testing new prompts for when users change their privacy settings, to notify them about what the particular change in the settings means or does. For instance, if a user with a private account replies to someone who isn't following them, a prompt would show up, reminding them that their reply won't be seen unless they switch to Public. Such prompts are meant to provide users with different contexts of privacy options in terms of their broader Twitter usage. This could be especially helpful for users with private accounts, so that in case their tweets become public because of a reply, they are notified of the change. The next feature includes a more transparent way of switching accounts, which would appear in the tweet composer window. This would help users see if they are tweeting from the right account. Twitter is also experimenting with new audience controls for tweets to reduce the need for multiple accounts, which would ultimately reduce the need for switching accounts. An in-stream overview of various privacy settings is also being considered by the company to make users more aware of their privacy controls. This would help users understand the various ways they can limit their tweet audience. Lastly, Twitter is testing a way to maximize awareness around the discoverability settings. This would help users be more aware of any suspicious or unwanted activity surrounding their profiles. Users would get alerts about how their profile is being discovered and would be prompted to change settings if needed. Twitter already has a well-defined set of privacy options and controls. However, since their context is not quite visible to the users, the company is considering increasing transparency around these settings to help users better understand and control them. |

| The Future of Verified Phone Calls and the End of Spam? #Infographic Posted: 08 Jul 2021 04:30 AM PDT Spam calls have become far too prevalent in the United States, as we are all aware. Right now, the US ranks 8th for the most spammed places in the world and an average of 54% of received calls are spam. Spammers make about $375 per American, which will cost Americans $10 billion in 2020 alone. Of course, Americans aren't the only ones who are suffering losses in the pocketbook due to spammers. Legitimate businesses are having an increasingly difficult time getting through to consumers. Not online are consumers no longer trusting incoming calls with unknown numbers, but even the protective measures, put in place by phone carriers, are doing more damage as many legitimate phone calls are being flagged as spam. Protective algorithms and call recipients each incorrectly categorize reputable numbers and 90% of people ignore calls with unknown numbers, which also can cause valid numbers to be flagged. STIR/SHAKEN regulations are being implemented to help combat all of these issues. Carriers are required to authenticate incoming calls and then display that authentication or the likelihood of spam on recipient's caller ID. STIR/SHAKEN is finally bringing trust back to telecommunications. Infographic by: phoneburner Share This Infographic On Your Site |
| When Reddit Took Over the Stock Market #Infographic Posted: 08 Jul 2021 04:08 AM PDT During the pandemic, the market crashed and social media users naturally found an investment/finance community online as the world went into lockdown. One of these communities can be found on Reddit. These Redditors began to notice that big time investors were shorting GameStop stock, meaning they were selling shares they didn't own and waiting for the stock price to drop so that they could then buy back the shares at a lower price and gain a profit before giving shares back to their rightful owner. A little shady, sure, but not illegal, nor uncommon. However, the Redditors wanted to teach bigger investors that shorting wasn't going to be tolerated, so they bought up all the GameStop shares and beat the "big boys" at their game. GameStop shares shot through the roof at a 1,250% increase in just a few week's time. Naturally, the bigger investors were furious and demanded that the responsible parties be held accountable, but the Redditors hadn't done anything illegal either. The subreddit, which originally started as a small group trying to make a profit, turned into a movement trying to "stick it to the man"...and succeeding. All of this begs the question; do we need market regulations reform? Infographic by: expensivity Share This Infographic On Your Site |
