Oregon’s new modeling sounds a dire tone similar to urgent warnings of last winter than the celebratory “reopening” event Gov. Kate Brown held last month. Here's your First Look at Saturday's news. New state modeling suggests cases and hospitalizations will swell in OregonThe delta variant's prevalence in the state of Oregon has left the state at a crossroads as it is on the verge of yet another deadly wave of COVID-19. New modeling suggesting the state could see nearly 1,200 new cases and almost 100 new hospitalizations every day by mid-August. Leading state epidemiologist Dean Sidelinger to again reiterate the need for all eligible people to get vaccinated and for everyone to mask up while in indoor public spaces. (Dirk VanderHart) ‘Feast Portland’ returns with smaller events and a focus on BIPOC producersFeast Portland has long been a destination for foodies from around the globe. It would bring food lovers to the Pacific Northwest for a four-day food festival with local chefs and international culinary talent. Now, following a hiatus last year, this year's event seeks to reimagine the festival with a series of events highlighting BIPOC leaders in Portland’s food and beverage community. (Crystal Ligori) Oregon approves killing up to four wolves in Eastern OregonThe Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has confirmed that the Lookout Mountain wolf pack killed or injured the four cows from July 14-26, which led to the approval of a kill permit for the affected livestock producer. The permit is for the permission to kill up to four uncollared wolves in Baker County. (Cassandra Profita) Masks required at Oregon government officesGov. Kate Brown announced yesterday that state workers will be required to wear face coverings in any indoor workspace, as will visitors to those agencies. The updated directive, which will be enforced regardless of a person’s vaccination status, comes as new data suggests the delta variant of COVID-19 is as transmissible by vaccinated people as by those who have not received a shot.
