Greenwood hit with Fujifilm plant closings

One of the largest employers in Greenwood County will lose more than half of its workers as Fujifilm announces the closure of four plants in the face of changing technology choices. The plant produced recyclable cameras, photographic paper and digital printing plates.

S.C. sees 1,672 unemployment claims as fed benefits end

In the final week of federal unemployment benefits programs in South Carolina, the state saw 1,672 initial unemployment claims filed. Greenville County had more than any other county, at 153, with Richland and Charleston counties not far behind.

Bank headquarters officially moves to Greenville

United Community Bank officially relocated its headquarters to Greenville today. Following several years of growth in South Carolina, the formerly Georgia-based bank announced its intent to name Greenville its corporate headquarters in February.

Trident Medical Center becomes teaching hospital

Starting today, Trident Medical Center in Charleston has its own teaching program. The hospital is launching its residency program with two graduate medical education programs: Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine, Trident said in a news release. Both are three-year programs that are open to 10 residents annually.

Hartness kicks off Independence Day from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday with a fireworks show, food trucks, music and games on the Great Lawn.
