Twitter is Temporarily Halting Verification Requests Due to Overload Posted: 31 May 2021 02:29 PM PDT
After announcing the re-opening of requests for account verification last week, Twitter has put the requests on hold, as a lot of requests came flooding in. The company announced that till it re-opens the requests, it will review the ones that it has received in the past week.
Twitter has 199 million active users and only 360k of them have the blue verification tick. This means that a huge amount of users have been waiting to apply for verification, including those who don't even meet the new, stricter criteria for the verification. Thus, it explains the influx of requests that Twitter has been overloaded with, within a week only. It looks like the decision to allow public requests was perhaps not the best one to go with for Twitter, but the company may be able to clear the backlog in a month or two, since it has also promised to re-open the process "soon." The request load will, nevertheless, still not be easy to deal with, as a lot of random users try to get the blue tick, including scammers who need it just to sell the account to someone else. |
Facebook Collaborates with News Publishers from Canada for the News Innovation Test Posted: 31 May 2021 11:44 AM PDT
Facebook has gathered 14 publishers from Canada as part of its News Innovation Test. The test is being run to determine a sustainable news community for promoting authentic news. The news authors will receive money in exchange of the valuable news that they share with Facebook, which would not have been publicly shared via any other source. As a result, the social media company will be able to test its innovation and improve the quality of it to ensure a better experience for users. Some of the publishers that have signed up for this deal with Facebook are BlogTO, Canada's National Observer, The Coast, La Coopérative Nationale de L'information Indépendante, Daily Hive, Le Devoir, Discourse Media, FP Newspapers, Narcity, The Narwhal, SaltWire Network, The Sprawl, The Tyee, and Village Media. Canada's Facebook international director and CEO of policymaking, Kevin Chan, and leader of media partnerships, Marc Dinsdale, have commented on Facebook's initiative, saying that the importance of the role of News Writers and their published news can not be denied, and that Facebook is trying to ensure the stability of journalism with this move. In addition to the test, Facebook will be raising money with organizations like the Facebook-Canadian Press News Foundation and the BIPOC Media Growth Program to help news publishers develop strong and competitive strategies in the future. Facebook says that it will continue to support journalists in creating high quality content to provide users with the best possible experience and listen to its users to create a healthy community. |
The full vaccination rate in different countries #infographic Posted: 31 May 2021 08:21 AM PDT Initially, scientists predicted that a country would require around 60 to 70 percent of its population to be fully jabbed against the Covid-19 in order to develop resistance against the virus and put the spiking cases to a halt. However, the revised threshold that was released at the start of 2021, says that some countries must have 80 to 85 percent of their population vaccinated fully. The entire world is in the race towards vaccination and currently, Israel seems to be winning it. As the infographic reveals, Israel has got around 59.3 percent of its total population jabbed fully. Bahrain is the second country with the highest percentage of its population fully vaccinated against the deadly virus i.e., 5.4 percent. Chile and the United States also have more than 40 percent population with full doses administered. Qatar, United Kingdom, and Hungary on the other hand have more than 36 percent population administered with the full doses of vaccine. Note that full vaccination here means that the percent of population has been administered all the prescribed doses required to develop immunity against the pandemic virus. Twitter continues its work on the emoji-reactions on tweets Posted: 31 May 2021 07:55 AM PDT The social media giant Twitter is working on some emoji-reactions for the tweets that will help the users to express their feelings regarding a specific post through emoji response.
A reverse engineering expert, Jane Manchun Wong tweeted how the new emoji reactions would look like. The new options that will be integrated for the reactions include, Cheer, Hmm, Sad, and Haha. The company has chosen these responses on the basis of the most used emojis over the platform in 2020 that are crying while laughing, crying, eye roll, sad, loved, heart eyes, confused, upset, and more. This shows that Twitter has amalgamated all of the top used emojis and created the top 4 reactions that can cover up all these emojis so that more and more people can relate and react accordingly. Twitter was testing out this emoji response for a long time now therefore, is not a major reveal or a big surprise to the users. |
