MATT GAETZ FACES INVESTIGATION The Justice Department is investigating Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for possible sexual relations with a 17-year-old girl. The staunch conservative and Donald Trump ally may have paid for her to travel with him across state lines, which would violate sex trafficking laws. JOURNALISTS GET LOOK AT BORDER FACILITY Journalists were allowed into a border detention facility in Donna, Texas, for the first time and it was a grim picture. More than 500 migrant children were packed into plastic-walled rooms built for 32 people at the largest U.S. Customs and Border Protection holding facility for unaccompanied children. The average stay at the facility was 133 hours. [AP]

GOP REP TOUTS STIMULUS FUNDS HE VOTED AGAINST Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) sent a tweet touting some funds that community health centers in his district will be receiving — even though he voted against the American Rescue Plan, which made the funds possible. “You can’t have your cake and vote against it, too,” North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson said. STIMULUS CHECKS ON THE WAY AFTER DELAY People on Social Security who don't file tax returns will begin receiving their $1,400 stimulus payments this weekend, the Internal Revenue Service said. The payments had been delayed by a holdup at the Social Security Administration. [HuffPost]

185 ENDANGERED BABY TORTOISES FOUND IN SUITCASE Officials in the Galápagos Islands found 185 endangered baby tortoises stuffed inside airport luggage. A customs declaration said the luggage only contained "souvenirs." Some of the tortoises died and the surviving hatchlings were in poor health. A police officer was arrested and expected to be charged. [HuffPost]
WATERGATE MASTERMIND DEAD AT 90 G. Gordon Liddy, a mastermind of the Watergate burglary and a radio talk show host, died Tuesday at age 90 at his daughter's home in Virginia. Liddy spent four years and four months in prison for conspiracy, burglary and illegal wiretapping in his role in the Watergate scandal, which led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. “I’d do it again for my president,” he said years later.
