CUOMO GIVES IN: SAYS 'SORRY' Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a new statement Sunday responding to sexual harassment accusations from a second former aide, saying his remarks had been “misinterpreted as an unwanted flirtation.” Former aide Charlotte Bennett, 25, told The New York Times that the governor had asked questions about her sex life, whether she was monogamous and if she had ever had sex with an older man. SENATORS REJECTS CUOMO'S BID FOR INDEPENDENT LAWYER New York’s two Democratic senators echoed state Attorney General Letitia James’ call that she be given the power to investigate accusations of sexual harassment against Gov. The statements come a day after a second woman accused him of sexual harassment. [HuffPost]

WHAT'S BREWING
CPAC STILL HUNGRY FOR THE BIG LIE Among attendees and featured speakers at CPAC’s setup at the Hyatt Regency, the notion that Trump actually won reelection on Nov. 3 but it was stolen from him in a conspiracy involving voting machine manufacturers, state and federal judges (and, in some versions, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg) was treated as fact. "Conservatism" at CPAC, it seems, appears defined in terms of loyalty to the former president's big lie. [HuffPost]
GOP REP SKIPS RELIEF VOTE FOR WHITE NATIONALIST RALLY Rep. Paul Gosar, a Republican from Arizona, spoke Friday night at a far-right extremist rally organized by white nationalist figurehead Nick Fuentes while his colleagues in the House passed a huge COVID-19 relief package. Gosar, who has served in Congress for more than a decade, had asked to vote by proxy due to the threat of the pandemic. [HuffPost]
BLOODY DAY IN MYANMAR AS POLICE CRUSH PROTESTS Myanmar police fired on protesters on Sunday in the bloodiest day of weeks of demonstrations against a military coup. At least 11 people were killed and several wounded. Police were out in force early and opened fire in different parts of the biggest city of Yangon after stun grenades, tear gas and shots in the air failed to break up crowds. Soldiers also reinforced police. [Reuters]
HONG KONG: PRO-DEMOCRACY LEADERS CHARGED Forty-seven Hong Kong pro-democracy campaigners and activists were charged with conspiracy to commit subversion in the largest single crackdown on the opposition under a China-imposed national security law. DOCTOR ATTENDS ZOOM TRAFFIC COURT DURING SURGERY A plastic surgeon is facing investigation by California’s medical board after he attended a traffic court hearing via video conference while apparently operating on a patient. “I’m in an operating room right now. I’m available for trial. Go right ahead,” Dr. Scott Green, wearing blue scrubs, a surgical mask and hat, told a courtroom clerk while machines beeped around him. [HuffPost] |
